McNair Scholars Program

The Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Scholars Program) assists low-income and first-generation college students.

The Henderson State University McNair Scholars Program is federally funded and serves 25 undergraduates per program year. It champions scholarly excellence in academics and leadership by financially and academically supporting talented students who desire to achieve distinction in research and scholarship at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Eligibility

McNair Program participants must be full-time undergraduates who meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Must have a 3.0 (or better) GPA with at least 45 credit hours
  • Must be either first-generation or and low-income student (a first-generation student is someone whose parent or guardians have not yet earned a four-year degree from a college or university)
  • Must have a strong desire to pursue a Master’s degree and/or Doctorate

The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program is a federally funded TRiO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Federal funds for this project for the 2026-2027 budget period totaled $277,000.
