The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is designed to promote academic and campus access in partnership with Henderson students, faculty, and staff. Federal law defines a disability as “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more life activities (e.g.: walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning).”
Disabilities common among college students include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning, Mobility, Medical, Psychiatric, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Visual Impairments, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and Autism.
Services
Adapted Testing
Extended time, distraction reduced environment and other testing accommodations are available to eligible participants.
Alternative Print Format
Access to textbook and class materials for eligible participants in audio, e-text, large print or Braille formats.

Our education specialists help students navigate the university system, decide on majors, and offer personal, career, and academic guidance.
Notetakers
Access to classroom notes may be provided to eligible participants.
Interpreters
Interpreters for deaf or hard of hearing students. Students who require interpreters are encouraged to contact the DRC prior to attending HSU to ensure services are coordinated timely.
Housing Requests
Assistance with rooms with ADA access, private rooms, private bathrooms, dietary needs and emotional support animals is provided by the DRC. An application, documentation and interactive interview are required to determine the need for services. An application can be downloaded or picked up at the Disability Resource Center. Completed applications and documentation must be sent via email to DRC@hsu.edu or dropped off at the DRC.
